jaano nehee bhaavai kavan baathaa ||
I do not know what pleases my Lord.

O mind, seek out the way! ||1||Pause||
iDAwnI iDAwnu lwvih ]
dhhiaanee dhhiaan laavehi ||
The meditatives practice meditation,
igAwnI igAwnu kmwvih ]
giaanee giaan kamaavehi ||
And the wise practice spiritual wisdom,
pRBu iknhI jwqw ]1]
prabh kin hee jaathaa ||1||
But how rare are those who know God! ||1||
BgauqI rhq jugqw ]
bhagouthee rehath jugathaa ||
The worshipper of Bhagaauti practices self-discipline,
jogI khq mukqw ]
jogee kehath mukathaa ||
The Yogi speaks of liberation,
qpsI qpih rwqw ]2]
aucwrx qp-sI; rwqw: Bwrw krky bolo
thapasee thapehi raathaa ||2||
And the ascetic is absorbed in asceticism. ||2||
monI moinDwrI ]
monee monidhhaaree ||
The men of silence observe silence,
sinAwsI bRhmcwrI ]
aucwrx bRhm-cwrI: 'bR' dulwvw rihq bolo
saniaasee brehamachaaree ||
The Sanyaasees observe celibacy,
audwsI audwis rwqw ]3]
aucwrx rwqw: Bwrw krky bolo
oudhaasee oudhaas raathaa ||3||
And the Udaasees abide in detachment. ||3||
Bgiq nvY prkwrw ]
bhagath navai parakaaraa ||
There are nine forms of devotional worship.
pMifqu vydu pukwrw ]
panddith vaedh pukaaraa ||
The Pandits recite the Vedas.

girasathee girasath dhharamaathaa ||4||
The householders assert their faith in family life. ||4||

eik sabadhee bahu roop avadhhoothaa ||
Those who utter only One Word, those who take many forms, the naked renunciates,

kaaparree kouthae jaagoothaa ||
The wearers of patched coats, the magicians, those who remain always awake,

eik theerathh naathaa ||5||
And those who bathe at holy places of pilgrimage-||5||

nirehaar varathee aaparasaa ||
Those who go without food, those who never touch others,
ieik lUik n dyvih drsw ]
eik look n dhaevehi dharasaa ||
The hermits who never show themselves,
ieik mn hI igAwqw ]6]
eik man hee giaathaa ||6||
And those who are wise in their own minds-||6||
Gwit n iknhI khwieAw ]
ghaatt n kin hee kehaaeiaa ||
Of these, no one admits to any deficiency;
sB khqy hY pwieAw ]
sabh kehathae hai paaeiaa ||
All say that they have found the Lord.
ijsu myly so Bgqw ]7]
jis maelae so bhagathaa ||7||
But he alone is a devotee, whom the Lord has united with Himself. ||7||

sagal oukath oupaavaa ||
Abandoning all devices and contrivances,

thiaagee saran paavaa ||
I have sought His Sanctuary.
