myrY pRiB swcY ieku Kylu rcwieAw ]

maerai prabh saachai eik khael rachaaeiaa ||

My True Lord God has staged a play.

koie n ikshI jyhw aupwieAw ]

koe n kis hee jaehaa oupaaeiaa ||

He has created no one like anyone else.

Awpy Prku kry vyiK ivgsY siB rs dyhI mwhw hy ]1]

aapae farak karae vaekh vigasai sabh ras dhaehee maahaa hae ||1||

He made them different, and he gazes upon them with pleasure; he placed all the flavors in the body. ||1||

vwjY pauxu qY Awip vjwey ]

vaajai poun thai aap vajaaeae ||

You Yourself vibrate the beat of the breath.

isv skqI dyhI mih pwey ]

siv sakathee dhaehee mehi paaeae ||

Shiva and Shakti, energy and matter - You have placed them into the body.

gurprswdI aultI hovY igAwn rqnu sbdu qwhw hy ]2]

gur parasaadhee oulattee hovai giaan rathan sabadh thaahaa hae ||2||

By Guru's Grace, one turns away from the world, and attains the jewel of spiritual wisdom, and the Word of the Shabad. ||2||

andhhaeraa chaanan aapae keeaa ||

He Himself created darkness and light.

eyko vrqY Avru n bIAw ]

eaeko varathai avar n beeaa ||

He alone is pervasive; there is no other at all.

gur parasaadhee aap pashhaanai kamal bigasai budhh thaahaa hae ||3||

One who realizes his own self - by Guru's Grace, the lotus of his mind blossoms forth. ||3||

apanee gehan gath aapae jaanai ||

Only He Himself knows His depth and extent.

horu loku suix suix AwiK vKwxY ]

hor lok sun sun aakh vakhaanai ||

Other people can only listen and hear what is spoken and said.

giaanee hovai s guramukh boojhai saachee sifath salaahaa hae ||4||

One who is spiritually wise, understands himself as Gurmukh; he praises the True Lord. ||4||

dhaehee andhar vasath apaaraa ||

Deep within the body is the priceless object.

aapae kapatt khulaavanehaaraa ||

He Himself opens the doors.

guramukh sehajae anmrith peevai thrisanaa agan bujhaahaa hae ||5||

The Gurmukh intuitively drings in the Ambrosial Nectar, and the fire of desire is quenched. ||5||

sabh ras dhaehee andhar paaeae ||

He placed all the flavors within the body.

viralae ko gur sabadh bujhaaeae ||

How rare are those who understand, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

AMdru Kojy sbdu swlwhy bwhir kwhy jwhw hy ]6]

andhar khojae sabadh saalaahae baahar kaahae jaahaa hae ||6||

So search within yourself, and praise the Shabad. Why run around outside your self? ||6||

vin chaakhae saadh kisai n aaeiaa ||

Without tasting, no one enjoys the flavor.

gur kai sabadh anmrith peeaaeiaa ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.

AMimRqu pI Amrwpdu hoey gur kY sbid rsu qwhw hy ]7]

anmrith pee amaraa padh hoeae gur kai sabadh ras thaahaa hae ||7||

The Ambrosial Nectar is drunk, and the immoral status is obtained, when one obtains the sublime essence of the Guru's Shabad. ||7||

Awpu pCwxY so siB gux jwxY ]

aap pashhaanai so sabh gun jaanai ||

One who realizes himself, knows all virtues.

gur kY sbid hir nwmu vKwxY ]

gur kai sabadh har naam vakhaanai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he chants the Name of the Lord.

Anidnu nwim rqw idnu rwqI mwieAw mohu cukwhw hy ]8]

aucwrx r`qw

anadhin naam rathaa dhin raathee maaeiaa mohu chukaahaa hae ||8||

Night and day, he remains imbued with the Naam, day and night; he is rid of emotional attachment to Maya. ||8||

gur saevaa thae sabh kishh paaeae ||

Serving the Guru, all things are obtained;

haumY myrw Awpu gvwey ]

houmai maeraa aap gavaaeae ||

Egotism, possessiveness and self-conceit are taken away.

Awpy ikRpw kry suKdwqw gur kY sbdy sohw hy ]9]

aapae kirapaa karae sukhadhaathaa gur kai sabadhae sohaa hae ||9||

The Lord, the Giver of peace Himself grants His Grace; He exalts and adorns with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||9||

gur kaa sabadh anmrith hai baanee ||

The Guru's Shabad is the Ambrosial Bani.

Anidnu hir kw nwmu vKwxI ]

anadhin har kaa naam vakhaanee ||

Night and day, chant the Name of the Lord.

har har sachaa vasai ghatt anthar so ghatt niramal thaahaa hae ||10||

That heart becomes immaculate, which is filled with the True Lord, Har, Har. ||10||

saevak saevehi sabadh salaahehi ||

His servants serve, and praise His Shabad.

sadhaa rang raathae har gun gaavehi ||

Imbued forever with the color of His Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

aapae bakhasae sabadh milaaeae paramal vaas man thaahaa hae ||11||

He Himself forgives, and unites them with the Shabad; the fragrance of sandalwood permeates their minds. ||11||

sabadhae akathh kathhae saalaahae ||

Through the Shabad, they speak the Unspoken, and praise the Lord.

maerae prabh saachae vaeparavaahae ||

My True Lord God is self-sufficient.

aapae gunadhaathaa sabadh milaaeae sabadhai kaa ras thaahaa hae ||12||

The Giver of virtue Himself unites them with the Shabad; they enjoy the sublime essence of the Shabad. ||12||

manamukh bhoolaa thour n paaeae ||

The confused, self-willed manmukhs find no place of rest.

jo Duir iliKAw su krm kmwey ]

jo dhhur likhiaa s karam kamaaeae ||

They do those deeds which they are pre-destined to do.

ibiKAw rwqy ibiKAw KojY mir jnmY duKu qwhw hy ]13]

bikhiaa raathae bikhiaa khojai mar janamai dhukh thaahaa hae ||13||

Imbued with poison, they search out poison, and suffer the pains of death and rebirth. ||13||

aapae aap aap saalaahae ||

He Himself praises Himself.

Your Glorious Virtues are within You alone, God.

thoo aap sachaa thaeree baanee sachee aapae alakh athhaahaa hae ||14||

You Yourself are True, and True is the Word of Your Bani. You Yourself are invisible and unknowable. ||14||

bin gur dhaathae koe n paaeae ||

Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord,

lakh kottee jae karam kamaaeae ||

Though one may make hundreds of thousands and millions of attempts.

gur kirapaa thae ghatt anthar vasiaa sabadhae sach saalaahaa hae ||15||

By Guru's Grace, He dwells deep within the heart; through the Shabad, praise the True Lord. ||15||

sae jan milae dhhur aap milaaeae ||

They alone meet Him, whom the Lord unites with Himself.

saachee baanee sabadh suhaaeae ||

They are adorned and exalted with the True Word of His Bani, and the Shabad.

naanak jan gun gaavai nith saachae gun gaaveh gunee samaahaa hae ||16||4||13||

Servant Nanak continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; singing His Glories, he is immersed in the Glorious Lord of Virtue. ||16||4||13||
